FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 3, 2007) - Leading 36-28 early in the second half, things looked promising for an NSU upset over a Rollins College team that entered the game with a 17-3 overall record and led the Sunshine State Conference standings. Things just weren't meant to be, as the Tars went on a 20-4 run over a seven minute and 19 second span to come away with the 67-58 victory on Saturday evening in the University Center Arena. Rollins improves to 18-3 overall and 8-2 in SSC play while NSU falls to 7-15 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
Rollins started the game on a 10-2 run over the first five minutes of play before NSU clawed back with an 11-0 run to lead for the first time at 13-12. The Sharks would hold onto the lead heading into halftime, entering the lockerroom leading 31-26.
Guard Tia Evenson (Jr., Neodesha, Kan.) lead all scorers at the intermission with 12 points. The Sharks forced 13 Tars turnovers and converted them into 12 points.
NSU would take their largest lead, 36-28, just three minutes into the second half before Rollins would respond to control play the rest of the way.
Forward Jennifer Havens (Sr., Ontario, Ore.) led all NSU scorers with 17 points, with 15 coming in the second half. Evenson finished with 15 while guard Mechelle Jones (Sr., Rockledge, Fla.) led NSU with seven rebounds.
The Sharks limited Rollins to just 29.8% (17-57) from the field but were out-rebounded 51-37. NSU shot 32.8% (19-58)in the game and were held to just 26.7% (4-15) from behind the arc.
Larissa McDonough of Rollins led all scorers with 18 points.
NSU returns to action on Wednesday, February 7th vs. Saint Leo in the University Center at 5:30p.m.
